    I love my XL Big Green Egg.

    When I first spoke with Steve at Oasis about the XL BGE, I was more suspicious than anything about the BGE system and thought it may be a little gimmicky. He told me about a “BGE following” of owners who swear by the product and then I became curious. I explained to Steve that I regard myself as a “grill master”, had a Weber and was used to great results. I warned that he would get his Egg back if I wasn’t absolutely blown away. Now, wild horses couldn’t drag that thing away from me.

    Seriously, I get it up to about 700 for brick oven pizzas, 600 for steaks, around 300 for chicken and smoke at about 250. I have 2 blowers (I think Flame Boss is better than DigiQ) and can smoke 8 lb pork butt over night while I sleep. I also love to smoke ribs. I’m now expanding into Brisket.

    I’d say that I use it about 3 times per week on average even in the winter. I really like to BBQ – in fact, I just pulled off a pork tenderloin about 15 minutes ago. If you’re like me and love to crack a beer and throw a steak on and know that your dinner will be better than if you went to a steak house – you should make the investment in a BGE. I like the solace in knowing that if it doesn’t come out right than it’s MY fault – not the equipment and I always feel that I have the advantage when cooking for others and I really need it to be perfect.

    The food you can make on it is amazing. I always use BGE charcoal because it burns best and your foods get a slightly smoky taste even if you don’t use wood chips – there are other very good charcoals out there. The construction of the ceramic egg somehow keeps foods from drying out and I usually add a drip pan with water/apple juice if I’m smoking for added juiciness.

    If you are looking for a versatile “appliance” for outdoor cooking and you like to leave your options open (direct grilling, slow smoking or pizza), I would recommend that you take a look at the Egg. Two years ago, I took the chance and have been grateful ever since. I enjoy the cooking experience and the results of my Egg and would absolutely recommend it.
